Goal

Technology should make people more capable without turning life into a productivity contest.

Powerful technology reaches hundreds of millions of people, but only a small percentage can extract its full value.

Our grandparents, parents, friends, teachers, doctors, and neighbors should not need to work in San Francisco, work in tech, or scroll Twitter looking for the latest "groundbreaking" AI release to get the most out of what could be humanity's greatest invention.

The goal of technology is not always to squeeze more "productivity" out of every person. We have enough work and stress already. Good technology should make life easier and more comfortable by taking care of the mechanical parts, whether that means making a difficult letter clearer, keeping an inbox organized, handling a repetitive form, or helping someone learn to cook.

Artificial intelligence can help researchers cure disease and help engineers push the frontier of what is possible. It can also help your grandparents fix their computer, or help a normal person understand a complicated insurance form. We have a tool that should make the complexities of life easier; but to get even 5% of its benefit, you need to become an expert.

Productivity is not the purpose of the human soul. In fact, greater productivity at work is proven to come from happier people. As a society, we should aim to give people more room for happiness, family, curiosity, health, and the work they choose.

Our goal is simple: build a magical experience that anyone, from any background, can use, and that helps people live their lives. The best consumer products in the world won people over by hiding the complexity of the machines underneath. We want to do the same for artificial intelligence. No one should have to invent their own use case out of everything it could possibly do; the product should meet people where they are.
